Your white logo is turning pink because of dye migration. The heat from your press reactivates the polyester dyes, causing them to bleed into the white DTF ink. To stop this, you must use a specialized blocker adhesive or lower your application temperature to keep the fabric dye from staining your print.
You have likely seen it happen: a beautiful, intricate logo looks perfect on your screen, but after it comes off the heat press, the fine script or thin borders are peeling away. This is not a printer failure or a cheap film issue. Most of the time, the artwork simply didn't have enough surface area for the adhesive powder to grab onto.
DTF transfers rely on a specialized TPU powder that sticks to the wet white ink during the printing process. If your lines are too thin, there is literally no room for that powder to land. Without powder, there is no glue. When you go to peel your film, those fine details stay on the plastic carrier instead of sticking to the garment.
In a professional shop environment, we look for a minimum line weight of 0.5 points. If you are working in pixels at 300 DPI, that translates to roughly 2 to 3 pixels of solid color. Anything thinner than this is a gamble that usually ends in a reprint.
Small dots, like the top of a lowercase letter i or the sharp tips of a serif font, are the most common points of failure.
Just because you can see a line on your monitor at 400 percent zoom does not mean the printer can reliably lay down enough ink to hold the adhesive. When designing for local Calgary business uniforms or high-use workwear, you have to account for the texture of the fabric. A 0.5pt line might stick to a smooth polyester jersey, but it can disappear into the weave of a heavy cotton hoodie.
If you are pushing the limits of detail, consider using a colored stroke that matches the shirt color. This creates a "fake" thin line by technically printing a thicker, more stable area of ink while maintaining the visual appearance of a fine detail.
Environmental factors play a role in how that powder sits on the ink. In drier regions like Southern Alberta, static can sometimes cause powder to migrate or clumping to occur on very fine lines. Keeping your film stored in a climate controlled space helps, but the best defense is always a thicker line weight. A design with 1pt lines will always outlast a design with 0.3pt lines after twenty trips through a commercial washing machine.
Durability is the product you are actually selling.
A quick way to check your file is to create a small 0.5pt circle and move it around your design. If your text or logos are thinner than that circle, they are at risk. For gang sheets, we recommend grouping high-detail items together so you can test-press one sample before committing the entire roll to a heat press run.
If you are worried about a specific logo, adding a very thin white border (outlining) can provide the structural integrity needed for the adhesive to bite into the fabric without changing the core look of the brand.
For most apparel applications, the sweet spot for a minimum line weight is 0.75 points. While 0.5 points is the technical minimum for the ink and powder to bond, 0.75 points provides the structural surface area needed to survive the mechanical stress of being worn and washed. If you are printing promotional items that won't see much laundry, you can push it to 0.5 points, but for workwear or retail brands, stay thicker to avoid the headache of peeling edges.
